“Alcohol is a very powerful drug, not a food. In small quantities, some people find it helps them get over their social shyness. If your brain is still developing it can stop you storing facts and images in your brain. In large amounts over a short period of time it can stop you breathing. In not so large amounts over a longer time it makes you depressed, causes cancer, heart disease and wrecks your brain function. Sorry Girls you are not equal on this one. Your liver is not as good as a boy’s liver and it takes much longer to process alcohol. So you can’t have as much alcohol as a boy and still stay in control.”
It is illegal to supply alcohol to an under 18 unless:
- The person supplying the alcohol is the parent or legal guardian and the alcohol is supplied in a reasonable manner.
- The person supplying the alcohol has the express consent parent or legal guardian and the alcohol is supplied in a reasonable manner.
- Express consent may include a personal conversation, an email or text message that you have good reason to believe is genuine.
- Your parent or legal guardian can be fined up to $2000, if the law is not followed
